Case study · FinTech & Lending
A lending platform that turns a rider’s SACCO savings into a daily credit limit spent directly at partner merchants — fuel, airtime, insurance, driving-licence courses — and repaid a little every day. No cash loans, no hidden charges.
Boda boda riders spend small amounts every day — fuel, airtime, a licence course — but conventional credit means cash loans, high fees and slow approvals. Meanwhile their savings sit in a SACCO doing nothing for them day to day.
Make the savings work. Redemptor computes a credit limit from a rider’s SACCO savings and repayment history, pays merchants directly for each purchase, and collects repayment in small daily instalments — with the SACCO in the loop for approvals, arrears follow-up and, as a last resort, recovery from savings the rider agreed to on joining.
A credit limit that matches each rider’s SACCO savings and grows with on-time repayment. Every charge shows its cost before the rider accepts it.
Draw-downs settle to partner merchants — fuel stations, airtime, groceries, pharmacies, insurers, phone dealers and driving schools — never as cash to the rider. Driving-school fees release in weekly tranches gated on repayment, confirmed attendance and no rider objection.
Register and approve members, see who is on track or in arrears, and help members grow their savings — from a phone.
Instalment schedules per facility, M-Pesa STK-push collections through a bank till, reminders on missed payments, then SACCO follow-up. A nightly arrears run keeps every balance current.
Lenders funding rider pools integrate through a versioned REST API with per-financier keys and separate demo and live environments: read what a rider owes, post repayments and reversals idempotently, confirm merchant payouts, and submit a daily statement that Redemptor reconciles line by line — mismatches are surfaced, never auto-corrected. A CSV upload covers financiers without developers.
Redemptor owns riders, facilities, schedules and payout approvals; payment partners own what was received. A mismatch is an exception to resolve — neither side overwrites the other.
Partner transaction ids are the idempotency keys, so a resend is always safe. Reversals are first-class events; a posted repayment is never edited or deleted.
Amounts travel as fixed-decimal strings in KES, timestamps carry their offset, and repayments allocate to the oldest instalment first before payout gates are re-evaluated.
Partners post repayments within 15 minutes and a statement by 00:30; the 01:00 arrears run then works from reconciled balances, so riders and SACCOs see the same numbers in the morning.
Built on the same architecture as our FinTech & Lending platforms.
